As beautiful as today is I decided that I will not waste another Saturday either sitting on the couch or in front of the computer screen! So I went for a walk... After packing up the camera and a bottle of water I drove on down to good ole' Whitfield Park to start my adventure. I parked by the tennis courts and went straight down to the creek behind the old baseball field.

I walked along the bank of the creek to find a small trail. Feeling a bit adventurous I decided to take this trail and find out where it may lead (mainly because it continued along the side of the creek...). To my surprise it led me straight to a fork in the creek! It was beautiful! There were very neat tree roots sticking out of the bank.

I started to notice a lot of movement in the water and it was then that I realized I was not alone! What could it be?! Is it a turtle? No, those things don't move that fast. Could it be a school of fish? No, they don't swim close enough to the surface to create the ripples. WHAT COULD IT BE?!!!

Ahhhhh! A snake! Well that means it's time for me to move on and see what else this day has in store. No sooner than I turn around, I see the cutest little bird darting from stick to stick in the brush near the creek. This bird is tiny! It's a golf ball with wings and it flies as fast as a humming bird (but I'm not sure if it can hover like one.). Lucky for me (and you if you're reading this) I had my camera still on and ready to go. Here's my best shot...

Things are looking up again! Well I decide to leave the creek to take a stroll on the walkway that runs alongside Seven Mile Creek through the Ellington Agricultural Center. Much to my dismay, as nice of a walkway as it is, there really isn't much happening as far as I'm concerned. I got a few cool shots, but nothing great...

After figuring out how boring the walkway was I decided to head over to Roger's Walk, a trail through the ag center. It was very peaceful and surreal knowing how close to society I was but not hearing a thing other than nature. The trail started near the creek, and there were small side trails that took you down to the creek every once in a while. This little fish was shot right at the first side trail from the entrance.

These little guys weren't far behind him.

As I keep walking the trail, I continue to hear things rustling around in the woods. Knowing that you are not alone but not being able to figure out exactly who's with you can be a little unnerving at times. I was a little on edge when all of a sudden this enormous bird swooped out of the brush a couple of feet off the ground (and a couple of feet right in front of me) and flew right up to his perch on this branch.

After finishing the trail I put my camera away and turned around and walked all the way back to the car. All in all it was a great day for said adventure.
